South Belmar website offers an appealing list of boro information

By Jackie Cisternino

If South Belmar residents and tourists want an eye-catching, interesting chronicle of the town, they don't need to look any further than the Internet. The South Belmar web site is an appealing, well-laid-out web document which features photos of South Belmar people and events, the history of South Belmar and links to other New Jersey related web sites.

Designed and administrated by Alternative Webs, the homepage of South Belmar's website displays a beautiful picture looking east at South Belmar's Lake Como. The homepage shows that the site has had about 4,000 hits, and reads "Welcome to South Belmar." This message is a link a list of pertinent South Belmar information, including the names and pictures of the mayor and council, and the history of South Belmar.

The history portion of the website states that South Belmar was established in 1924. It lists information on the 1924 vote to separate from Wall Township, on the police force, on South Belmar's 100 plus-year-old houses and on the recently built playground.

South Belmar celebrated its 75th Anniversary at the Waterview Pavilion in Belmar on June 11 of this year, which was also documented on the web site under "photo albums." The 75th Anniversary Celebration photo album lists pictures of the event, which can be clicked on to enlarge them on the computer screen. Other photo albums feature pictures from the Behrman Park Dedication and the Christmas Tree Lighting, both in 1998.

The South Belmar Council meeting agendas can also be found on the site. The South Belmar environmental commission has a picture of the earth from the perspective of outer space, with the words "South Belmar Environmental Commission" superimposed on the picture, but no information is listed on this link as of yet. The Board of Education has a link which lists the names and phone numbers of the board members, and there is also a link for a calendar of important South Belmar dates including trash pick-up and water bill due dates.

A Yahoo Map of South Belmar is also available to any tourists who want to visit the area, along with links for driving directions to South Belmar. The site also has a list of nearby businesses in South Belmar, including food markets and dry cleaners.

The web site has links to other important New Jersey sites, including the New Jersey State Homepage, the New Jersey League of Municipalities, the Monmouth County Library and Belmar's Homepage.

Another perk to the website which made a fun place to visit was that it flashed the temperature and time in South Belmar. If someone wants to know what the weather forecast for South Belmar, they would simply click on the temperature and it links to wunderground.com, a site that specifies in weather.

The South Belmar website is not one to be missed by any Jersey Shore resident or tourist to the South Belmar Area. It is helpful in every aspect of the Borough of South Belmar, and is easily accessible at www.southbelmar.com.
